How a Questionnaire transformed Fondsfinder’s user experience
Effective user guidance can enhance the experience and decision-making process.

About the client
Raiffeisen Capital Management (Raiffeisen KAG) is the asset-management arm of Raiffeisen Bank International, Austria’s largest banking group. Managing about €44 billion and nearly a fifth of the domestic fund market, it is a national leader - especially in ESG funds.
If you're running an investment platform or any decision heavy service, guiding users can be a game-changer. Fondsfinder, a financial investment platform, faced this challenge and turned things around by introducing a simple yet powerful solution - a questionnaire. Here’s how it unfolded.
At a Glance
Objective
Cut abandonment by giving investors clear guidance, plain-language info and tailored fund lists so they can choose the right investment with confidence.
Solution
Added a three-step goals-and-risk quiz, inline “Knowledge Box”, dynamic filters, redesigned fund cards and a side-by-side comparer - turning overwhelming lists into a personalised shortlist.
Result
User testing showed higher flow completion, smarter fund picks and greater confidence thanks to the new guided experience.
The Challenges
Users visiting Fondsfinder had too many fund options, complicated terms, and no clear guidance. As a result, many abandoned the platform without making an investment decision.
The platform lacked:
Guidance: No clear way for users to filter through the numerous investment options.
Simplified Information: Financial jargon left users confused and discouraged.
Personalization: Everyone saw the same options, making it hard to pick the right one.
A thoughtful UX approach
After extensive brainstorming and user testing, we tried various design solutions like reworking navigation and filters. The breakthrough came with two key features: A Questionnaire to guide decisions and a Knowledge Box to explain financial concepts, transforming the user experience and boosting confidence.
Questionnaire
We decided to simplify the process by adding a questionnaire to guide users step-by-step.
How it worked:
Understanding Goals: The questionnaire contained questions focusing on the goal of the investment—short-term growth, long-term savings, or moderate returns.
Risk Assessment: It helped users figure out their comfort level with market ups and downs.
Personalised Recommendations: Based on their answers, the platform showed a tailored list of funds that fit their needs.
This not only made the process easier but gave users confidence in their choices.
Knowledge Box
Even with a questionnaire, users still got stuck on financial terms they didn’t understand. That’s when the Knowledge Box came into play.
What it did:
Explained complex terms in plain language at relevant points.
Provided extra information through tooltips for users who wanted more details.
Made users feel smarter and more in control of their decisions.
"The new questionnaire and Knowledge Box completely changed how our users engage with the platform. They now feel confident navigating investment choices, leading to higher completion rates and better user satisfaction." - John Doe, Product Manager, RCM
What happens after answering the questions?
After completing the questionnaire, users receive a curated list of funds tailored to their investment goals. To make decision-making even easier, we introduced dynamic filters for further customisation, redesigned fund cards to highlight key details, and a fund comparison feature to evaluate shortlisted options side by side.
Fundlist
After completing the questionnaire, users receive a curated Fundlist tailored to their investment profile. They can further refine their selection using intuitive filtering options.
Features:
Dynamic Filters: Users can easily narrow down the curated list by selecting accessible filters based on performance, risk levels, or fund type.
Redesigned Fund Card: The updated fund card presents key information clearly, empowering users to make informed decisions quickly.
Quick Comparison: Integrated comparison functionality allows users to evaluate multiple funds side by side.
Funds comparer
Users can now compare the funds they shortlist from the curated recommendations, making it easier to evaluate their options side by side.
What it does:
Side-by-Side Comparison: Displays key metrics such as fund performance, risk levels, and fees in a clear, organized format.
Better Decision-Making: Helps users identify the best investment options based on their unique goals and preferences.
Enhanced Transparency: Provides a comprehensive view, empowering users to make more informed and confident choices.
Impact: User Testing insights
To see if these changes worked, we tested the new system with real users. Here’s what we found:
